Steller’s Jay

Cyanocitta stelleri carbonacea

There are 13 recognized subspecies of Steller’s jay ranging from as far north as Alaska toas far south as Honduras and Nicaragua. Of these 13, more than half of them are found in Mexico and two subspecies can be found in California, C.s. frontalis, which is more central, northern and eastern areas of California, and C. s carbonacea which is found in southern, coastal and western California.
