Desert Stink Beetle
Eleodes dentipes
There are over 200 species of Eleodes divided into 17 subgenera. Eleodes is the largest genus of darkling beetles found in the Americas.
They are easily distinguished by their usually matte to shiny black coloration and the fact that they don’t have wings. When agitated they will point their abdomen to the air as they prepare to use their chemical defense.
