Western Fence Lizard
Sceloporus occidentalis
There are five subspecies of western fence lizard, the northwestern, the Sierra, the San Joaquin, the coast range, and the great basin fence lizard. It is the great basin sub species that inhabits our mountain range and canyons.
They come in a varying degree of coloration from some being almost completely black, different shades of grays, browns tans, and some with bright colortion.
